Brass Open House
Brass Open House is a one-hour class designed for students playing a brass instrument at any level from beginner to advanced. The basic concepts and skills that are addressed are foundational to any level of successful brass playing and can be of benefit either as an introduction or review. The format consists of a series of 4 independent classes, each of which focuses on separate skills or techniques such as breathing, lip flexibility, or articulation. While brass instruments cover a large spectrum, they all require development of the same basic techniques because the foundation of all brass playing takes place between the mouthpiece and the lips. Because each class focuses on a different skill, it is not necessary to attend each class in sequence and each class is scheduled independently so it is not necessary to sign up for a sequence of classes. It can be helpful if people bring music that they are currently working on but this is not necessary.
Materials Included: | Some printed sheets |
Requirements: | Bring some music that you are currently working on or plan to work on. I will incorporate this into the class. |
Instructor: | Mark Benassi |
Instructor Bio: | Mark Benassi has been playing trumpet for over 60 years, primarily as a very part time amateur with limited time to practice and prepare for performances. This is more often the case with most amateur trumpet players while most trumpet teachers, who are often professionals, naturally tend to think in terms of students aspiring to achieve professional level skill. The concepts he focuses on are primarily designed to assist the casual or beginning player to achieve more satisfaction in playing or performing with limited practice time but can also apply to more advanced players. |
